Ghana's rail uses the contactless Tap n' Go card — the same card as road transport. Tap on the validator at the station; the system charges the correct fare. Buy or top up a card at the station.

Services are limited (often two a day) and depart on time — the train doesn't wait. Get to the platform at least 10 minutes before departure.
Commuter lines run Monday–Saturday (the Kojokrom–Sekondi–Takoradi shuttle runs Monday–Friday). There is no Sunday service on any line.
Tema–Mpakadan zone fares are GRDA's published prices. The Tema–Accra and Kojokrom–Sekondi–Takoradi fares are the best figures we have and have not been published by GRDA — treat them as a guide and confirm at the counter.
Road transport unions and the Ministry of Transport met on 8 September 2026 over a proposed fare review. No increase was approved — approved road fares stay unchanged until further notice while a joint committee reviews operating costs. Any higher fare charged in the meantime is not an approved one.
A World Bank economic update published on 26 August 2026 put transport at the centre of Ghana's growth and jobs agenda, noting that roads carry over 95% of passenger and freight traffic and calling for rail freight to be revived along key trade corridors.
A Tema–Mpakadan passenger train struck livestock on the track on 30 July 2026; no passengers were hurt, but train DMU002 was damaged and taken in for repairs, with some services running at reduced capacity. No public update on its return to service since — confirm departures at the station.

The shuttle runs Sekondi → Kojokrom → Ketan → Essaman → Bakado → New Takoradi → Takoradi along the 15 km coastal corridor.
