Short answer

The fine grows 1% a day after the 14 days, and unpaid fines block DVLA services like licence renewal and roadworthy.

Ignoring the SMS does not make it go away.

Day 1 to 14: pay or contest. A reminder SMS may come around day 7.

After day 14: 1% of the fine is added every day. No limit is published. A GH¢120 fine becomes GH¢240 after 100 days late.

DVLA blocks. Police say unpaid fines block:

  • Scam sign: Licence renewal
  • Scam sign: Vehicle transfer
  • Scam sign: Registration and re-registration
  • Scam sign: Lay-off
  • Scam sign: Roadworthy inspection

So when your roadworthy is due, you must clear the fine first.

Many offences. Reports on L.I. 2519 say a 6th offence within 24 months goes to court. The licence can be suspended for at least 12 months, plus retraining.
